Now That Christmas Is Over, Part 2
>
Hydration: Water, Water, Water. Drink more water. Water won’t necessarily curb your appetite but it may help you feel more full. It’s always good to drink a lot of water, but just remember that there is such thing as too much water. Proper hydration will make you feel better, feel less fatigued and keeps your mind sharp.
Diet And Exercise: Losing any holiday weight or weight in general is not an easy task and it’s often a new year’s resolution that becomes short lived and some keep packing on the pounds. Eating right is the first step, but exercising is key to burning calories. You need some form of physical activity. While saying “I burn hundreds of calories in my sleep” may be a true statement, it still doesn’t hold any water to the fact that only cutting calories will not help you lose weight in a healthy way. Cutting the right calories is also key. Still eating Ho-Ho’s and Ding Dong’s but still cutting your calories is not the right way to go. Cutting fatty and sugar calories is the first step in my opinion. It doesn’t mean that you should cut all fats and sugars out. Consuming the right sugars and fats from the right sources is key.
Don’t Over-Do it: Consult your physician if you plan on exercising but haven’t done so in a long time. Start off at a moderate to slow pace. If you start exercising too strenuous right out of the gate it can back-fire for various reasons. The biggest problem is that people try too hard in the first few days and it breaks them down. You’ll have muscle soreness and fatigue like you haven’t had in a long time and this can be rather discouraging. Don’t over-do it. Keep it fun and keep it simple. Later on you can make your routines more complicated.
Set A Goal: Start off by setting a goal that is believable and achievable. That means don’t set your goals too high. Make them challenging yet achievable. Telling yourself that you’re going to lose 50 pounds by February is something that sounds great when you say it, but when you start trying to make progress it seems like an unreachable goal. If you desire to lose that much weight then tell yourself your going to lose 10 lbs in January. See how you progress at the end of January and set a new goal for February.
There are a variety of ways to get (back) on a healthy track after the holidays or even after living a not so healthy lifestyle for a long time. Finding what works best for you, can be tough but keeping on track is even tougher. And here’s a little secret…you don;t have to wait until the new year to start. It’s all up to you.
